Wairata Station is a secluded farmstay bordered by native bush and the Waioeka River, an ideal launch‑pad for our private guided walks, river swims, and star‑filled nights. We’re just off State Highway 2, around half an hour south of Ōpōtiki; book your stay and we’ll send you the step‑by‑step directions that take you the final stretch.

What is the required group size for booking?
Our walking packages require a minimum of 6 guests and a maximum of 10.
How challenging are the trails?
Trails include a mix of terrain with a few steady hill sections. A general level of fitness will help you enjoy the walk comfortably.
What kind of meals do you provide?
Your stay includes home-cooked breakfasts, packed trail lunches, and wholesome dinners. We suggest bringing a few additional snacks for the walking days.
What happens if the weather turns bad?
Walks typically continue in most weather conditions. Please bring waterproof gear and suitable clothing. If severe weather occurs, we may adjust schedules for your safety.
Do I need special footwear or gear?
Yes - sturdy, comfortable hiking boots or walking shoes are essential. Bring along your walking poles if that's what you are comfortable with. We'll provide a detailed gear list once you've booked your stay.
Is there phone or internet coverage at Wairata Station?
Coverage is limited, providing an excellent opportunity to escape and disconnect. Emergency communication options are available onsite.
Are accommodations heated and comfortable?
Yes. Everything is heated and comfortable, with hot water showers, proper toilets, and comfy beds so you can unwind after a day on the trail.
